Lieutenant Colonel Whitney is a lifelong Jefferson County resident who grew up in House Springs. A graduate of Northwest High School and the Jefferson College Law Enforcement Academy, he began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in 2002 as a deputy assigned to the patrol division. Within a few years he was placed on the SWAT team and shortly thereafter, was assigned as a detective within the county’s multi-jurisdictional drug task force. After serving several years on both the SWAT team and drug task force, Whitney was assigned to the detective bureau until his promotion to Corporal by Sheriff Boyer in 2008.

As a corporal, Lt. Colonel Whitney was initially assigned to uniform patrol before being selected to return to the drug task force as commander. During this time he was featured in media publications produced by USA Today, CNN, Reuter’s, and several local media outlets that covered the unit’s success in combating the manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine.

Lt. Colonel Whitney’s next assignment was to the Special Operations Division where he supervised the DWI Unit, Traffic Unit, Honor Guard, firearms program, and served as the SWAT Team Leader. In 2015 Lt. Colonel Whitney was promoted to Sergeant assigned to the South Zone and continued to maintain his position as SWAT team leader. On January 1, 2017, Whitney was appointed by Sheriff Marshak to the position of Undersheriff.

Today, Lt. Colonel Whitney acts as the department’s chief financial officer where he writes and manages an annual budget of nearly $29 million. In addition to fiscal management, Lt. Colonel Whitney works with Sheriff Marshak to oversee the department’s daily operations.

Lt. Colonel Whitney has a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from Webster University. Lt. Colonel Whitney lives in the Festus area with his wife Stefanie, a teacher in the Fox School District, and their two children.
